Terms of Service

Version 1.0.0-draftEffective 16 August 2026Updated 15 August 2026

The agreement between you and Kibu. It covers who may hold an account, what you are responsible for, subscriptions and refunds, and how either of us can end the agreement.

1. Who can hold an account

You must be 18 or over and the parent or legal guardian of every child you add. By creating an account you confirm both.

Children do not hold Kibu accounts. A child profile is created by you, belongs to your account, and is controlled by you.

You are responsible for everything done on your account and on your family's child profiles.

2. What Kibu is

Kibu is a family app for setting missions, tracking progress and rewarding children, with an optional social feature that lets children connect with friends in other families you approve.

Kibu is not a childcare, supervision, safeguarding, educational assessment, medical or therapeutic service, and must not be relied on as one. It does not replace your own supervision of your child.

3. What you agree to do

  • Give accurate information, including your child's real date of birth — it decides which protections apply to them.
  • Keep your password private, and keep your child's PIN between you and your child.
  • Supervise your child's use of Kibu in a way appropriate to their age.
  • Review friend requests before approving them.
  • Tell us if you think someone has accessed your account, or if you see something that puts a child at risk.
  • Follow our Community Guidelines, and make sure your child does.

4. What you must not do

  • Use Kibu if you are not the parent or guardian of the children on the account.
  • Create a child profile for anyone who is not your own child or ward.
  • Use Kibu to contact, or attempt to contact, a child who is not in your family.
  • Upload anything that breaks our Community Guidelines.
  • Attempt to bypass our safety checks, scrape the service, or access another family's data.
  • Resell, sublicense or commercially exploit Kibu, or use it in a school or institutional setting.

5. Content your family creates

Photos, captions and messages your family creates stay yours. We do not claim ownership.

You give us permission to store and display that content so the app can work — showing a post to an approved friend, showing a mission photo to you. That permission is limited to running Kibu, ends when you delete the content or your account, and does not let us use your family's content for marketing.

We may remove content that breaks our Community Guidelines, and we will tell you why.

6. Subscriptions and payment

Kibu is a paid subscription. Prices are shown before you buy and include tax where required.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel. Cancel through your Apple or Google account — that is the only place a store subscription can be cancelled, and we cannot do it for you.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

Refunds for purchases made through the app stores are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. Where you have a statutory right of withdrawal — for example as a consumer in the UK or EU — that right applies regardless of anything here.

We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

8. Availability and changes

We try to keep Kibu running but cannot promise it will never be unavailable. We may change or remove features; where a change materially reduces what you are paying for, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel and receive a refund of the unused part.

9. Ending the agreement

You can close your account at any time from Settings. Doing so deletes your family's data as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or our Community Guidelines, that puts a child at risk, or where we are required to by law. Except where a child is at immediate risk or the law forbids it, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.

If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we refund the unused part of your subscription.

10. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. This matters here because Kibu is used by children, and we are not attempting to contract out of responsibility for their safety.

Subject to that, our total liability to you is limited to LIABILITY_CAP.

Kibu is provided as-is to the extent the law allows. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected by anything in these terms.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by GOVERNING_LAW, and disputes are heard in FORUM.

If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you may always bring a claim in your local courts.

12. Changes to these terms

We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any material change, in the app and by email. If you do not accept it you may cancel and we will refund the unused part of your subscription. Continuing to use Kibu after the notice period means you accept the change — except where the change concerns your child's personal data, in which case we ask you separately and wait for your answer.
